DMV Requirements for Teenagers

DMV Permit Requirements

• You must be 15 1/2 years old
• An original or certified copy of U.S birth certificate, passport or green card
• Social Security Number (SSN)
• Completion of Driver Education Certificate (pink or blue slip)
• A parent of a legal guardian must sign below the "Acknowledgement Statement" on the Completetion of Driver Education certificate form before you go to the DMV
• Complete the DMV application (DL44)
• Your parent's or legal guardian's signature is required on the DMV application (DL44)
• $26 (Please check the DMV Driver handbook for the price)
• Pass your vision test
• Pass the DMV permit test

DMV Driver License Requirements

• You must be 16 years old
• Hold your permit for at least 6 months
• You must call to make an appointment for the DMV driving test
• You must have completed at least 50 hours of supervised driving with your parent or legal guardian (10 hours must be driving at night)
• Completion of 6 hours behind the wheel training with a Driving School (the gold certificate)
• Pass the DMV driving test to obtain your California Driver License
